Re: Useful sites

not really a site or an add-on, but the single most useful tool I've ever found for my game is Rawr. A little program that runs outside of WoW. I downloaded it, saved it to MyDocuments and have a shortcut to the .exe on my desktop.

You select your class from the first page, then you can select the option to load your character from the armory by giving your server and toon name. Play around a little with it, check it out. There is even a youtube "tour" to help you get started using it, if you like.

You can optimize your setup, your gear, your talents, your gems and enchants, your buffs, literally everything, even spell rotation. It will also build an upgrade list for gear for you. It assumes you are 80 and raid buffs, but you can change everything. You can do "what if" scenarios by regemming something in Rawr and seeing the effect it will have, or trying on a new piece of badge gear, etc.

I increased my dps by over 1k points during the first 3wks using rawr - mage and knew for sure which gear was going to help me. Then as I got new gear, I ran the optimizer again and found out how to best enc/gem my gear for the new setup. In my case, using combination of "lower" gear I had was much better for my dps than using the "best" gear I had. HUGE help.

I now have "saved" files for my BiS gear, my offspec gear, my current setup, my pvp setup, and 10man runs (since you don't get every buff in a 10man). I don't regem every time.. would be too expensive.

If you want to have a private conversation, I'd be happy to run you thru a personal tutorial on it. I've helped a couple others with it and they are ELATED!

Hey Kaz

Been playin around with Rawr and its pretty interesting and helpful.

A little confused with one thing tho and wondering if its a bug or if something else is going on.

In my armory, it shows me as having 1858 strength. But once imported into Rawr it shows my strength as 2370. Far as I can tell, no buffs are being applied or anything like that, in Rawr. Lookin over my other stats, some like Hit are correct, and others like Armor Penetration look to be inflated [sign in to see URL] ideas ?

yes. Rawr assumes high end raiding. It will assume that you have every buff that would be opitimal for you in a 25man raid. You can change that by going to the tab for buffs and selecting which buffs you have and which you do not. For example, on my mage, it assumes that I will have the fish feast buff, the flask of the frost wyrm buff, a haste pot, the druid crit buff, focus magic from another mage, etc. Also if you did not import your toon from the armory, it will assume that your talents are from the most widely accepted optimal builds for your class, so you might need to tweak that if you are not using a cookie cutter build. Its really an amazing tool.

Re: Useful sites

personally i found that tweaking it to try to get to "exact" was not really helpful to me in the end. Unless you always run with the exact same 10man and you are always missing a needed buff, then it might help you by showing you how increasing a particular stat or changing a talent choice might increase your performance.

I didn't want to make a career out of the theory crafting and numbers. I really just wanted to use rawr to help me with optimal gear, gem and enchant choices. Also to know which gear I should shoot for, especially since I was using a raid point system and didn't want to spend raid points on gear that was only a nominal upgrade. Personally, I just left the defaults in place, and used where I currently was at as a baseline and just looked at the relative increase in performance that a piece of gear or a buff or a talent change would give me. Hope that makes sense.
