A tale of Venome

Venome was born Vellumn Klipnac the daughter of the renowned Vengor and Melina Klipnac’s. Her parents where famous for their clockwork creations. Unfortunately for the young Vellumn that left little time for their little girl. She soon became jealous of the clockworks that always had her father’s attention for as with many little girls she adored her father.

When she was still very little her parents created what was to be their most spectacular clockwork of all. The entire city of Klick Anon showed up for the power-up ceremony. However, something went terribly wrong. The clock work was too advanced, too intelligent and went rogue the moment it was turned on and given a command. Rampaging through the crowd, many were maimed or killed as it fled out of the city. The victims included her mother and father who were the first to fall before their own creations wrath.

Now an orphan, her hatred for the clockworks was even greater than before. Being near one would send her into either tears or a rage of destruction. As the orphanage was staffed by clockworks the city elders sent her to the only place where she would not be exposed to them... the Necromancer’s Guild.

Not really knowing what to do with a small child, but not wanting to refuse the request from the city elders, they placed her in the library to keep the place clean and dusted. They then quickly forgot about the little girl as they returned to their dark studies.

The Necromancer guild had a very different affect on the little Vellumn than anyone would have thought. Seeing the reanimated corpses that served the Necromancers the young girl hatched a wild scheme, she would raise her parents from the dead! She was sure that after what had happened with the rogue clockwork that they would abandon their mechanical devices to love and play with the little girl who ‘saved’ them and loved them so.

And so she began her studies in secret, spending all her time in the library ‘dusting’ the books until one day she believed she was ready. Sneaking off to her family tomb below the city she began her dark ritual. Evil magic flowed through her, giving her a thrill as the corpses of her parents began to stir, but she was too young to understand the powers that flowed though her. As her parents arouse from their crypts she saw the flaw in her plan. For she had raised their bodies from the grave, but had not restored their souls, that which made them the gnomes she loved so dear and which had loved her. She tried in vain to return them to their resting place but they were too strong and she too inexperienced. The monsters broke free from her control and rampaged through Klick Anon before finally being destroyed by the clockwork watchmen. Unfortunately for the young Vellumn this was not before several prominent citizens were severely injured and the Mayor’s favorite clockwork destroyed.

In fury at the little girl he sentenced her to a life of bondage in the junk yards far below the city dismantling the things she hated most. The Necromancers seeing for the first time the potential in the girl tried to intervene but the Mayor would not have it. And so little Vellumn was cast into the bowels of the city and forgotten, for a time. For as the years went past the Necromancers remembered her and would sneak her gifts and books for they saw the potential in her and the hatred for the mechanical life of the gnomes above which they shared. Eventually time caught up with the old Mayor and he passed from the world of the living. The Necromancers quietly freed the now much older Vellumn from the junk yard and returned her to their guild. There she changed her name to Venome and began her studies in Necromancy at the hands of the guild master himself.

She quickly advanced through the ranks of the guild. Growing each day in power and skill. But for all her success she felt a longing, a need that was not fulfilled. Hearing the tales of adventure and friendship of her fellow necromancer Rotaway she realized that she longed for contact with the living, for the friends she never had as a child, for the adventure she could only dream of while imprisoned in the junk yard below surrounded only by clockworks.

And that is the tale of how Venome came to seek out the Vertically Challenged to join their little band.
