Re: Is your child a 1337 h4x0r?
Interesting that it (a couple of links in) talks about "Mob" being short for "Mobile Object". I was told it was an acronym for "Man Or Beast". Although I still prefer the one I came up when I tried to guess what it stood for, "Monster Or Badguy" LOL.

Re: Is your child a 1337 h4x0r?
... and I quote from that site:
According to a 2003 study on children's Internet use, pre-schoolers are now the fastest-growing segment of Internet users. While children at this age have a limited attention span for online activities, Internet images and sounds can stimulate their imagination and add to their experiences.
Yes... and majority of them are on the SoE forums!

Prof, from what I understand, the term "Mob" comes from the old text based MUDs. The Mobile Object term referred to more that just the badguys.

Re: Is your child a 1337 h4x0r?
Yes, mob is from the MUD days. Ahh, I remember them fondly....
Actually, many of the terms used in MMORGPs come from the days of muds.
Mobile Object. In LPMud, every file was, basically, an object. LPMuds use a language called LPC that is pretty similar to C, with some basic inheritance (and other stuff). So, a mob was nothing more than a file (object) that had a heart beat function (called every ~2 seconds by the driver) where you could implement smarts for the monster.
Every basic combat mud has a base implementation of mobs. Back on the one I developed on for several years, we actually subclassed the base mob to allow class/subclass specific logic for every class/subclass on our mud. It provided a more realistic experience than a standard snake that can kick/bite.

Gnellie say stuff about the Mobs not the prof lol
I think it is funny they put leet stuff on there. I'd start cracking up if my parents started sending me emails with leet words in it.
