Ready Player One

Just read "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline last week. You all MUST read. Really.

It's been described as The Matrix meets Dungeons & Dragons meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 'Nuff said.

In a word, it's about us. Told from our grandkids perspective... sort of. If someone born in 1972 invented something that made Gates and Jobs look like hacks. Set in the future but not a page goes by without an 80's reference. Not the deepest intellectual book, but a jolly fun read.

Re: Ready Player One

I just wish I had a dollar for every 80's reference I "got" ... but then I'd be embarrassed by how few I missed.
Music from Rush to Culture Club? Check.
Movies from War Games to Monty Python's Holy Grail? Check.
Books from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Monstrous Compendium? (OK, that's not a super huge range there...) Check.
Video games from Zork to Joust? Check.
TV from Schoolhouse Rock to Knight Rider? Check.
Fashion (or lack thereof)? Check.

And it goes on. The few criticisms of this book I've read complain about how it panders to 80's nerds. Well, being one of them, I just couldn't complain. Pander away!
