Re: Game of Thrones on HBO !

Well for those who weren't prepared for yesterday's shocker, the latest twist in this riveting story was Ned's (Eddard Stark's) death. Brilliant acting by all!

They picked a perfect actor to play King Brat Joffrey. I just wanted to reach through the screen and wipe the smug, evil look off his face emoticon

Next week is the season finale! Oh no . . . this is bad . . . I can feel the withdraws hitting already . . .

I wasn't prepared, and I was totally unhappy. I can't believe next week is the finale?? Does it end, or are they saving some for a second season?

So do I buy the books or what?

Yes, this is just the finale to the season one, as Ed said, they've signed on for another season thus far so we'll at least have that. It's become hugely popular, so quite likely that it will continue on.

The good news is that this is just the first of three books and not sure how long they'll take in developing the first book season wise, at least two it looks like.

Yes Kaz, I hear you . . . alot of people were pizzed at Ned's death. I remember being completely disheartened and shocked when reading the book and wasn't sure if they were going to change it for the series. They've done a great job thus far though in conveying the richness of his characters to the small screen. It says alot that we were all so effected by Ned's death in the ability of the writers and actors to have our emotions invested in his demise.

Two hours next week and then it's on hiatus. If I'd not read the book already, I would be trying very hard not to . . . but it can be a long summer waiting for the next season . . . emoticon

I'm really enjoying the series and am looking forward to the last episode next week. I spoiled the plot accidentally on Wikipedia, though, so I knew about Ned's pending departure.

I have picked up the first book. I wanted to get a hardcover, but they are in very short supply since the book was released almost 15 years ago, so I have a recent release softcover.

It has been nice to fill in some of the story that is missed in the television series.

Is it bad that my favorite character is Tyrion Lannister. emoticon

Yes Berk, I agree with some missing parts of the book, but then again it's hard to compile such detail into a series although I feel they've done a remarkable job trying! The majority of the flavor and large scenes are present anyway.

Lol emoticon I loved the way he wrote that character, and the actor in the series conveyed him perfectly. He always struck me as knowing exactly who he is and being true to his nature.

My favorite character is a toss up between Snow and the feisty, spirited Arya.

Still haven't seen any of the HBO series... but that's a trademark of George RR Martin, he's totally not afraid to kill off who you think is your protagonist. At the risk of a spoiler, this won't be the first time you're shocked by a major character's death.

I love the contrast between Arya and Sansa: they're both naive in their own ways, yet so totally different from each other and completely fail to understand where her sister is coming from.

I adore Jon Snow. ("You know nothing, Jon Snow") Tyrion has such depth of character, it's hard not to like him (damn Lannister). I worry for how they're going to portray Brienne, it will be all too easy to keep her two-dimensional; I like her a lot, but she seems to be a tool or mirror, and more useful for how the main characters see/treat/use her. Of course, I may be partial to her name emoticon Also admire Stavros Seaworth.

:::Enthusiastic applause:::

Well done! I was biting my tongue waiting to see if they could pull off the rebirth of the Dragons. Didn't know if the imagery would match up to my imagination from the book, but they did an awesome job! emoticon

Gnelle, Brienne has not yet appeared, she should surface in next season/book two it looks like. Not sure if they've even began casting for that season yet, as at the end of this season, all that was said is Season Two will resume in spring of next year.

Been awhile since reading the fist book, so I may have to alter my pick of fave character to Daenerys and Jon Snow (sorry Arya).

HBO did a very good job in conveying depth of all the characters, and I'm just so happy with the final scene.

It's going to be a long wait . . . think Ed and I may have to pick up the second book to share emoticon

I'm with you on Daenerys. She is becoming a very strong character, and her journey to leadership is so much more moving than the petty bickering that is going on in the seven kingdoms.

I do really wish that Sansa pushed Joffrey off that bridge...
