Is it me....???

Running Dual Core 2 with 4GB RAM, nvidia 9500GT 1GB, and winXP. 25" monitor so [sign in to see URL] the graphics turned way down and its still choppy, 5fps, etc. On a side note, when i cranked up to [sign in to see URL] graphics still didnt look that impressive, LOTRO was much more impressive IMHO. Is it me, or is there some setting terribly set wrong?

Planned on making a similar post myself asking about others experience. But I assumed it was [sign in to see URL] a laptop, which is probably never a good way to get great performance.

But WOW was always decent enough for me (~25 fps) and at a nice resolution (1920 widescreen). This game I had to drop all the video settings to the minimum, pick the low quality rendered, and then squint at a 1024 wide window just to not feel like I was wading through water in game. Its good enough to play but probably not something I'd want to invest in without serious improvement - dont think it would be possible to PVP at all in the current situation

I stopped comprehending what computer specs meant since the days of when Pentiums were introduced (ah 286 12mhz now that was something I could get my head around lol)

According to my computer its sportin Intel Core 2 Duo processor 250 Ghz, 2GB of RAM

The ol graphics cards is a "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M" - when I first booted RIFT it told me I might enjoy upgrading the drivers for that - but tried to do so via Device Manager > Update Drivers and it told me it was [sign in to see URL] that wasn't a through attempt emoticon

Any computer pro's got any tips for me & Grumble emoticon

I have not tried the current Beta yet but last time I had no problem with a Dual core machine with the 8800GS (lesser) graphics card. Had most things set to medium and was running 1920x1200 windowed mode.

I found the graphics to be as good if not better than LotRO and it ran smoother. I still have a random lockup issue with LotRO that kills my computer for the night. Strangest thing I have ever seen, it will not reboot (HD shows off line) until the next morning when everything boots just fine.

Now do remember that part of this Beta is their server stress testing so there may be some significant issues due to that.

I plan to play tonight and will report back on how my system does compared to last time.

To upgrade your nVidia drivers I suggest going to the nvidia web site. Under the driver download section they have a nice app that runs to check your card and driver and update you if needed.

Not sure either. My laptop a Asus Vx 60 runs it great and its quite a beautiful [sign in to see URL] its a gaming laptop.

My old desktop not so good but i did lower settings in game to low rendering but its kinda laggy.

So were playing on the [sign in to see URL] time for a new desktop anyway.

Tho it plays LOTRO [sign in to see URL] the beauty of WoW was that on a crappy pc powered by gerbils and dialup it would run lol..

Well some interesting finds last night.

First with the same settings as before my 8800GS was doing 35FPS with things set just a little below medium.

After playing for a bit I decided to push that up to high where I was at 18-20FPS. The graphics were just amazing at that point. Then after about 5 minutes I got the same super crash as LotRO.

That made the light bulb over my head go off as I realized that it was my graphics card overheating the machine. With the iMac being an all in one it has very tight spaces and poor heat rejection. At least I know what is wrong now but that means I will have to tune down LotRO and RIFT.

emoticon My two cents... emoticon

Greater the memory-greater the graphics.

[sign in to see URL] or higher processor is your friend.

Always update your drivers.

Check your power supply.

A simple, often overlooked cause of decreased performance is dust. These machines, no matter how clean the environment collect it. Try taking a can of air to it, after you've turned it off for the night and in the morning unplugged it. Take one side of the case off your hd and blow it out, take your graphics card out of the hd and blow it's fan out to remove the dust. Be gentle. Spray in a sweeping motion.
