And glad you mentioned about classes because this was what Ed and I were thinking of talking about as well. My understanding is Ken is going for tank, Shelley is going to play a bard, Ed is going for Mage with a Pyro/Stormcaller/Chloro build, and I am going to make a Cleric with a Purifier/Warden/Sentinel build so either of your ideas sound like they'll be a great addition We can all decide on a server when "real time" approaches but personally Ed and I would like to focus mainly on a PVE server. Any thoughts on this anyone? Kaz, I hear you on the 2 games being plenty, but I also hold out hope to see you and Gerry in Rift with us one day nondisclosed_email@example.com (Aerwyn)Tue, 08 Feb 2011 20:18:10 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392918,from=rss#post392918https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392918,from=rss#post392918Really looking forward to meeting up with you guys and playing "for real" So sounds like there's six of us expecting to play so far eh? Anyone absolutely decided on what role they plan to be? I'll probably lean towards melee, something ranged thinking Saboteur/Marksman. Of course the possibility of being a bard again will likely bring Windwoven back into action I guess - anyone yet expecting to be a tank or a healer? nondisclosed_email@example.com (talonthorn)Tue, 08 Feb 2011 16:44:02 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392914,from=rss#post392914https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392914,from=rss#post392914Sounds like you're having fun. Right now, I'm still playing WoW since I had gotten into a raid team just before the Cata release and have that sense of loyalty that nags me, lol. A couple weeks ago, Gerry and I revived some LOTRO toons we started over a year ago and so we are playing that in the evenings. Being active in two games is more than enough for me, atm. When I get the fortitude to leave WoW (and I definitely see that coming), I might give Rifts a go, idk. Have a ball, I'll be following your threads for sure. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kazmara)Tue, 08 Feb 2011 12:46:55 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392898,from=rss#post392898https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392898,from=rss#post392898So after a weekend of Rift gameplay here are my thoughts and observations. Gameplay: The UI I found to be very user friendly and familiar. Anyone coming from WoW should be well familiar with most of the basic commands. I was impressed with the ability they have developed in the design which enables you to adjust your UI to suit individual preferences. Variety: I very much enjoyed all that my brief adventures brought, from soloing, to grouping, to joining in on public Rifts, I had a complete blast. I've yet to try a dungeon but look forward to that as well. The lore and storylines are brand new and very enjoyable for someone having spent the last four years doing the same quests over and over again in WoW. As a couple of folks have already mentioned, the development trees and possibilities for character customization are nearly limitless! The Rifts themselves I was at first hesitant to try, since you are participating in a huge public event and wasn't certain how "well behaved" everyone would be. Much to my happy surprise, everyone was focused on their own job and not in criticizing everyone else, so that immediately assauged any concerns I had and enabled me to just relax and join in the frey. I was in one Rift with around 10 groups (around 40 people total) and no lag issues at all. Crafting: Didn't get too far, but I did find it easy to catch on to. Like EQ2, you have to be present at a loom, forge, etc to produce your wares, but easy to navigate and understand. Graphics: I was awestruck by some of the scenery and found myself staring agape just as much by the new world around me as spending time questing, rifting, etc. All in all, a very enjoyable game with plenty of variety. So . . . when are we gonna see ya'll there??? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Aerwyn)Mon, 07 Feb 2011 20:19:15 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392896,from=rss#post392896https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392896,from=rss#post392896Shell and I will be there as you already know, we'll be dividing our time between Rift and WoW, unless Rift consumes us. I'll also continue to play LoTR, it's just one of those games nondisclosed_email@example.com (Aerotuk)Mon, 07 Feb 2011 20:00:14 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392806,from=rss#post392806https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392806,from=rss#post392806hmmmmm.........<sips ale and ponders> me mights have to give this thingy a try..... I have a beta invite for the weekend, so gonna give it a look-see....though I LOVE lotro....the temptation of a whole new mmo can be too great..... So.....hmmm....tank, dps....hmmm, prob one of each factionnondisclosed_email@example.com (grumblestorm)Thu, 03 Feb 2011 19:57:44 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392805,from=rss#post392805https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392805,from=rss#post392805Thanks for creating the thread Ryver I'm so looking forward to this game for the reasons all have mentioned. I also love the thought of no meters or numbers to worry about, just learning to play your character without having some yahoo calling out to the DPS or Healer about their numbers, takes fun away from the game imho. Classes look AWESOME Like a kid in a candy store I just can't quite make up my mind which to try first I do like the look of the Druid (always near and dear to my heart) and their ability to do up close combat coupled with their ability to summon Fae companions. Though if they do release a Bard class (I see there's more "Coming Soon" classes) I'll be all over that . . . I miss the bard from Frontiers days Be great to see some of our "old knights" end up there!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Aerwyn)Thu, 03 Feb 2011 19:34:03 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392803,from=rss#post392803https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392803,from=rss#post392803quote:talonthorn wrote: Guardian sounds good btw That was what I thought, then I did the starting quests for the Defiant and man the Guardians make the Scarlet Crusade look like boy scouts! I like the lore of both factions so I will have at least one of each. Strange, for me, is that I went with DPS for a change instead of my typical tank/heals. Was having a lot of fun with both Melee and Caster DPS. I am always open though to whatever the group needs. I too am excited about "wonder" vs "elitism". The UI had plenty of customization for me and I will be happy if we never see a GS type anything ever.nondisclosed_email@example.com (vcnews)Thu, 03 Feb 2011 15:59:50 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392802,from=rss#post392802https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392802,from=rss#post392802Yeah,no meters or addons was what we were looking for ourselfs. Was way happy to see that. I wanted to be remembered by how I play the game not my dashboard of meters and such lol. Still leaning toward Ranger and maybe Shaman, tho Saboteur looks cool, planting bombs and charges sounds way cool.Unfortuanatly Diana is now scared as I have a fondness for massive destruction.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Skycaster)Thu, 03 Feb 2011 15:57:39 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392801,from=rss#post392801https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392801,from=rss#post392801quote:talonthorn wrote:  and the idea of no exposed API, meaning no add-ons, no damage meters etc, is very exciting. Agree. No elitism fueled by gear scores. You should be considered elite by BEING elite. If you can dps like mad/tank like a pro/keep your group standing all while staying out of the fire, you are elite enough for me. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Berkin)Thu, 03 Feb 2011 15:02:43 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392800,from=rss#post392800https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392800,from=rss#post392800After playing around with the soul calculator thing for a while, getting really excited to play this game. There seems to be a crazy amount of flexibility in choosing a spec - exactly the sort of thing that felt so terribly lacking in the last round of talent tree consolidation in WOW. Been reading up on the Rift forums also, and the idea of no exposed API, meaning no add-ons, no damage meters etc, is very exciting. Right now I am really in the mood for a MMO that isn't quickly reduced to a set of numbers. Guardian sounds good btw Has anyone given any thought to what they'd like to play yet? The usual allure of melee is strong..but tempted to try something different this time around. nondisclosed_email@example.com (talonthorn)Thu, 03 Feb 2011 14:47:34 +0000 Re: Rift Roll Call !https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392799,from=rss#post392799https://btheorderofthesleeplessknights.runboard.com/p392799,from=rss#post392799quote:grumblestorm wrote: loving LOTR right now.....BUT, I think Nancy and I are gonna be sticking to LOTRO for a while. It was raining, and there was a heavy fog in the area, making it difficult to see through the thick woods. Several spider kill quests made for a perilous journey as I sought the spider queen to kill her!!!
