Re: The search for another MMO

I gave lotro another try yesterday evening. There has been changes since I tried it shortly after release. I still have to bring my video settings way down to make it playable, but I hope to remedy that problem this month with a new(er) video card. This should help with WoW as well. I added Treelounger as a friend. My character is a Dwarf Guardian named Berkodin (I think - I really wanted Berkin).

Thank you Kaz. I had thought that Tol Barad was just a PvP only zone like Wintersgrasp and had never even gone there. I will check it out.

After I try the Rift beta this week I think I will try out LotRo as well. Sounds like it might be fun.

Vanguard is one of those games I always wanted to play, but never could for various reasons. When it first came out, my PC could not run it. Combination of a poor, untuned engine and an aging PC. By the time I could run it, I did not know anyone else playing it.

Vanguard is so very close to dead, maybe even closer than EQOA. Only one server for US and one for EU. Great game underneath but ruined by the bad launch.

DDO is purely instance based. It is fun when a group of 4-6 people though. I think it might be best to be played once a week with a dedicated crew of people to stay the same level.

I agree with the once per week analysis.

LOTRO sounds like the best fit for the Knights from what I know of everyone. Rift is a very polished game, but I can't imagine anyone playing it for more than a month or two before saying, "I think I'll go back to WoW where I have already done the grind." Not a bad game, though.

Or perhaps it is that I don't really need to look at MMOs. Perhaps I just need a nice 1-N person co-op game emoticon Hmm, something to think about.

This is where I have just about landed. I loved EQOA with the Knights, but nothing has come close to that since, and it's not all the fault of the games I have tried. My life is different now. My daughter was not even born yet when I beta tested EQOA. Now she is in 3rd grade (time flies, eh?) and I devote almost all of my free time to family. Or when I do play games, I need to be able to control the timing precisely. I play a lot of DS.

Anyway, I am still having a blast with DCUO as an action game that can be played in groups on occasions when I feel like. Can solo to the cap, but can group or PvP for fun. If anyone gets the PC version, I am on Virtue and Vice.

I also still do the podcast about FFXIV. Waiting for the fixes incoming on that, but I don't really recommend it for most people.

Grumble and I had a good time last night exploring the frozen lands of Erud Luin. Berkorin the Guardian is a roaring ball of fury as he pummels his way through the hordes of gobs.

Overall, the game is very similar to wow, but with a much more serious tone. Very little magic, no war machines, just blades and blood. A lot less color so far, but Grumble said its very pretty with a better video card, which I will remedy very soon.

We may be switching servers, because apparently Ken has a house somewhere. emoticon

Yeah, let's invade Ken's house!!!! As far as color, not much in the mountains with those grumpy but tough dwarves, only the color of gold and blood!

Come down to the lands of the elves, with lush green valleys, and trees blossoming a kaleidescope of colors.

Anyone want to get together this sat or sun to try?

Treelounger

I've been playing LoTR off and on for about five months. I enjoy it, it's a nice break from WoW. I have a modest abode in the shire because my Elf Champion enjoys looking down on the lesser races. emoticon I wanted to try DCUO back when Ryver was talking about it but lacked the funds. Thought about FF too but went with LoTR cuz can't beat freedom town. Now with Rift coming out I may be giving that a try. MMO's are a curious breed. I'll try to hop on brandywine is it? My home is open to everyone, just remember if you break it you buy it!

Groovy, your home is in Brandywine? I'll add Ark to my friends [sign in to see URL], see the running post we have on this in the Horde Chat section....
