What Cataclysm?

While the story lines in each zone have been interesting I must say I am very underwhelmed with this expansion.

Started with expecting to see absolute chaos from a Cataclysm. I had invisioned seeing Org and Stormwind in ruins, vendors and trainers standing in ash covered streets in front of their burned out buildings. City guards issuing frantic calls for help from the most seasoned adventurers to help them hold the line while everyone else searched out materials to rebuild the defenses.

Instead I go to sleep with some earth quakes and elementals causing problems and then wake up to find a completely rebuilt, from the ground up, city. No help needed there.

Then I run through some very small zones and bingo 85 it is. Now I find that there are few, if any, daily quests to do for the various rep grinds leaving only LFD with talbards in order to get access to the gear (and I don't do LFD).

Was just sort of wondering if anyone else was sitting here, like me, thinking "what the heck are they going to do to entertain me for the next two years while I wait for the NEXT expansion?"

I'm level 82, and still in the first zone!!! With the exception of the instance run, I've hardly left Vashj'ir. The quest lines have been fun, although everything seems so much more linear than it used to be, especially since each round of quests isn't visible until they have been phased in.

I agree about the lack of cataclysm, especially with Orgrimmar. Stormwind still has the molten claw marks of Deathwing on its gate and a the park/gardens is gone.

Orgrimmar re-opened the next day with a bigger, better look without any visible impact on the city. It's almost like Thrall was keeping the place run down.

I see lots of evidence of a cataclysm - floods, lava, huge cracks in the earth - but everyone seems to have gotten over it quickly.

BTW, has anyone ran into Deathwing burninating a zone yet?

Re: What Cataclysm?

I have spent very little time in the old world zones. Does Deathwing burn down the new ones?

As far as leveling, I was able to go through Hyjal, barely touch Vashj'ir, brief stay in Deepholm, then clear most quests of of Uldum. I'm already 84.5 with just a bit left in Uldum and all of Twilight Highlands to go. Not to mention 90% of Vashj'ir and Deepholm still available to me.

The speed at which people hit 85 seemed way too quick. Of course, I see WoW as mostly focused on Heroic dungeons and some raids. Everything is very stream lined to get you to that point.

Hell, I believe my Shaman went through BC in quite a bit under 24 hours played total. Now she is up in Northrend and already gained two levels in probably 4 hours played. Ran a few dungeons, questing in a zone I never touched before. The exp is just flying through now. If I can get my Druid to 85 and start working on gear, I could probably have the Shaman catch up without much time actually spent.

Oh, 10% guild exp bonus + 2 pieces of BoA gear really makes the exp go fast emoticon Just missing the guild levels for the Cata BoA gear for another 10% bonus.

At my current rate, I will likely be geared for raids in another month or so. I don't actually expect to raid much, but I'll probably fill in for some as the guild I'm in gets more people ready to raid. I suspect there is only a few months of content to keep me entertained just from Cata. Good thing Dragon Age 2 comes out mid-March emoticon

One of my biggest problems has been the desire to play alts in the old world!! There is so much to do again!! I am missing my dwarf shaman as I am leveling to 85 on Al. Oh, I really like my gobbie warrior, too!

I did not enjoy my Troll Druid though. I was really looking forward to that class/race combination, but I liked the Dwarf Shaman more.

Heh. My main is a Druid. I enjoyed kitty DPS years ago, but got tired of chasing tanks in dungeon groups. Changed to Moonkin/Balance and really enjoy that spec for leveling.

My first alt is a Draenai Shaman. I just could not wait any longer for the Dwarf! She's 70 now. The Shaman I have had a lot of fun healing on. Something I never really got into as a Druid. Resto/Elemental on shaman is a nice dual spec. emoticon

Re: What Cataclysm?

I was surprised with how quickly the cities were "rebuilt" as well. Org was burning for the few weeks up to the release of Cataclysm which was pretty cool - you mightve missed that Tarq.

I dont think there will be any shortage of stuff to do - like Berk I'm really excited about leveling up through the redesigned zones. But at the same time dont wanna get "left behind" on the main so focusing mostly on getting geared up at 85 now. But really looking forward to creating some new toons and exploring the redesigned dungeons.

I loved the leveling experience in Vashjir. I did that one completely - but then just kinda bounced around between Deepholm, Uldum, and Twilight Highlands while going from 83 to 85. I would have rather stuck with one zone and saw the entire storyline, but there's lotsa time for that while working on reps emoticon
