Re: ToCr 10 Raid, Monday 2/22/10

In looking over the video of the encounter again, I noticed that during the elemental phase Jaraxxus is pulled to one side of the arena, and the elementals are tanked on the opposite side. It seems this would give the OT more room to re acquire the little buggers when the charge off to cause havoc.

Also fel fire was mentioned that you could stand in one spot until the effect dropped and just have it healed through. I think we could accomplish this as our healing is high enough.
This would keep the fel fire confined to single spots rather than long trails.

I read through some discussion of OTing the encounter and got some good information. What seems to be the best way to handle it is to mark the primary that will be focus fired, and the OT needs to work on getting as much aggro as possible before they peel. They should run back to me as long as dps switches to the next target. Perhaps an assist macro on the OT to keep from following the infernals as they run about.

The reason for keeping him in the center is to try to keep people spread out to avoid the arc of fel lightning. If he is in the center, we have 360degrees, if he is against the wall, that gets reduced to probably more like 90degrees in reality, so we'd be more likely to take the arc lightning. I'm not at all saying we can't try this, its just the reason why. After watching the video again, it looked like the fel infernos popped out of the volcano in some sort of radius, so if he is moved to where the raid would be positioned out of that radius, perhaps the risk of dmg by arc'd lightning would be better than the risk of aoe and/or aggro from the infernos. The video only showed one spawn of a volcano, so I would guess that if u used that method, the boss would need to be moved to another location upon another volcano spawn. Having said that, I have to say, I've never seen it done this way. I've killed this guy in 10 man 13 times and 17 times in 25 man both with my guild and in pugs, he's always been tanked in the center.

When you say "fel fire", I assume ur talking about the legion of flame. Yes it can be healed thru the ticks so that the fire can stay in one spot, but as soon as it's done ticking off, the person has to move out of it. If they stand in it, we can't continue to heal them thru it. The fear is that if people don't get used to recognizing that they have it and need to move when the tick is finished, then they will drop. The reason for running away from the spot, whether straight to the wall, like the vid showed, or in a semi-circle like I suggested, was to keep the fire out of the spot they should be trying to return to. The reason for the semi-circle, was to get them back to their spot faster than if they had to run all the way back from the wall. I think its very worth giving it a try, but people will have to remember to move out of it once its finished ticking off.

Great suggestions emoticon

This is great. I was thinking we should try 2 off tanks for this actually. That way we have the 2nd off tank picking up runners and bringing them to you, rather than having you running all thru the raid with infernos chasing you and giving the raid aoe along the way. The raid then moves out of the aoe, and we lose dps while they are moving.

Since these fights have a lot of movement, dps and healers also need to get more accustomed to using their instant casts when they are moving, even tho they likely do less damage or healing, its better than none at all. emoticon
