 Question Regarding Hunter's Pet Skills
Hey gang,
Just got a question regarding specific pet skills that the hunter has. I have a pet bear with my Horde toon and the bear has the "claw" attack along with bite and growl. I want to get the same "claw" attack for my other toon's bear. I can't remember how I acquired it. Can anyone give me some guidance?

If the pet did not have the skill when you tamed it then you will have to find something as a temporary pet to tame long enough so that you learn the skill from the pet. You can then teach it to any pet you have that can learn it from your 'Beast Training' ability in your General spell book tab.
You do NOT have to teach a pet lower levels of a skill before teaching it a higher one. For example if your Bear can learn Claw 3 and you do not know any Claw skills yet you just need to find and tame a Claw 3 pet to learn it and then you can train Claw 3 directly to your real pet.
You have to do this for every level of pet skill currently.
Some tricks for getting new pet skills.
1 - ALWAYS put your REAL pet in the stables before you head out or you will not be able to tame the temporary pet.
2 - If the temp pet you need is in the middle of other mobs where you will need to clear them out tame a junk pet before you head in to help out. You can train that junk pet with Growl to help you clear things out then just before you tame your skill learning pet you abandon your junk pet.
3 - You have to have your pet using a skill to learn it, it is not automatic on taming the pet. I find the easiest way to do that is tame the temp pet in the wild and then RH to some starting area town and if it is an attack kill low level mobs with the pet until you get the "you have learned xxx skill message" at which point you abandon the temp pet and get your real pet out of the stables.
4 - If the skill is a non combat skill such as Dash/Dive, Stealth, etc. you can just toggle that skill on and off as fast as it resets until you learn it.
5 - Before heading off to tame that temp pet make sure you have food in your bags that it will eat or it may run off before you can even learn the skill you want. Nothing worse then being in the middle of know where to tame a Bat to learn Dash/Dive only to realize it only eats Fruit/Fungus of which you have none.

On a side note Claw is a focus dump ability (instant cast, no cooldown, fires as often as the pet has focus available) while Bite it not (10 second cooldown + needing the focus). Typically you will want to use Claw when in a group where the pet should use all of its focus on damage and Bite when the pet is tanking and needs to be using Growl as a priority and then using any extra focus on Bite every 10 seconds.
Fortunately in the WotLK expansion they are doing away with the need to tame things to learn skills and are making it where pet skills are auto learned by the pets including automatically getting the next level of skill when they level up.
