Re: Pen & Paper/Virtual tabletop gaming
I have played tabletop in a group with 10 members. Even though the RL experience level with the game was relatively similar within the group, each session took a ridiculously LONG period of time to just accomplish one round of dice rolls. We often only managed one battle, or a hundred yards of game movement in 5 hrs of playing. I'm not saying this has to be the case, but in that group it was.
I also played for a period of time with just one other person, who played the DM and I ran 5 character sheets! Game play went very fast due to the fact that there was no discussion amongst the players and I could coordinate supportive moves between my characters.
I played for about 5 years, but I'd say as far as experience level with the game, I fall into an advanced beginner category, or low in whatever category would be beyond advanced beginner.
I played 2nd Edition, 3rd Edition and one they called 3e? I have no preference to which edition, whichever is chosen will be almost like brand new anyway, I'd have to reread everything.

There's also always the option to have two groups/DMs

As I "work" I'm thinking to run a game with a party of 8 or even 10 can't be too much different than a smaller party....the biggest hiccup is getting everyone to slow down and take their turn...
It would be interesting to see how this plays into the 'complete session' request you mentioned earlier. As the part size increases (and thereby the challenge difficulties), I could see it taking longer to get through a single session. At what point does it become too long to be a single session in order to complete the story arc that is developed for the session?
I believe this can be worked around, but should be brought up to think about.
I'll take the easy out for this one....ALTS!!!
And at some point, some day, I will run an evil player campaign...

Re: Pen & Paper/Virtual tabletop gaming
No we are currently waiting to download it.
You need a wizards of the coast account, and have to agree to all the terms of the open play test.
Hoping to have it for this weekend.

Re: Pen & Paper/Virtual tabletop gaming
I would really like to put forth the idea that the base system we use for this is 2nd Edition AD&D.
As I have said previously, the games I have run have been based in 2nd Edition, but I have always allowed for many rule changes, modifications, and customizations.
I'm not assuming the role of DM here, we have many hurdles to clear, but I am willing to do it, and truth be told, Ryver and I were chatting today, and the birth of an .....ambitious and potentially amazing idea has happened.
I do not want to give anything away this far from inception, but let me say that if we do this, I think we will be embarking on some amazing fun.
I haven't been this excited about a potential campaign in years.
Stay tuned.

Good article on bounded accuracy on the official D&D site. You can read it here.

Dambro, I'm so curious now as to what you and Ryver have in mind, and can't wait for this all to gel together!
